Political stakeholders in Esit Eket Local Government Area have thrown their weight behind Dr. Eunice Thomas as their consensus candidate for the Eket Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached during a strategic consultation meeting held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the residence of respected political figure Elder Benjamin Udobia.

The gathering brought together key political actors, party executives, and community leaders across the local government area.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Council, Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikott, described Dr. Thomas as a timely and unifying figure for the constituency. She expressed confidence in both her leadership capacity and the level of grassroots support she enjoys.

“Dr. Thomas is God-sent for a time like this,” Ikott said, adding that her candidacy resonates strongly with the aspirations of the people of Esit Eket.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the strength of any political endorsement lies in collective agreement. He noted that the unanimous voice vote in support of Dr. Thomas demonstrated a clear and united position by stakeholders.

“The overwhelming ‘yes’ from stakeholders reflects broad acceptance and shared purpose,” Abia stated.

In her remarks, Dr. Thomas expressed appreciation for the consistent backing she has received from the people of Esit Eket, describing their support as unwavering since the early stages of her political journey. She called for expanded support across the wider constituency while reaffirming her readiness to serve.

“I am grateful for the support I have already received,” she said. “What I seek now is to bring everyone on board as we move forward together.”

She further underscored her commitment to effective representation, expressing confidence in her preparedness to deliver meaningful development if elected.

Adding historical context to the discussion, her husband, Hon. Sam Ekpenyong, highlighted the tradition of rotational representation within the constituency. He stressed the importance of maintaining fairness and inclusivity among the constituent local government areas, noting that past representation has reflected a balance across the region.

The meeting concluded with prayers led by Elder Udobia and Pst. John John, symbolizing both spiritual and political solidarity among attendees.

Those present included party leaders, ward executives, aides to the state government, and other stakeholders, signaling a coordinated effort to rally support for Dr. Thomas’ bid as the 2027 elections draw closer.
