Rescue teams in Nepal have recovered two more survivors, 10 days after devastating flash floods struck areas along the country’s border with China.
A Chinese man was found alive inside a tunnel at a hydropower facility, while a 60-year-old woman was rescued from the upper floor of a four-storey building, according to reports from the affected area.
The latest rescues came a day after two other men were pulled alive from a separate hydropower tunnel following an extensive search operation.
Rescuers reportedly relied on satellite imagery to locate the tunnel, which had been buried under layers of mud following the floods.
Hundreds of workers who were inside tunnels and other facilities when the disaster occurred are still reported missing.
Meanwhile, the death toll from last week’s catastrophic flooding has continued to rise.
A tally compiled from figures released by Nepali and Chinese authorities puts the number of people killed at more than 1,350.
The floods, triggered by torrential rainfall and flash flooding, caused widespread destruction along the border region, leaving communities cut off and prompting large-scale search and rescue operations.
Authorities and rescue teams continue to search for missing people while assessing the extent of damage caused by the disaster.
