ALLEGED PALM FRUIT THIEVES ARRESTED AS POLICE RECOVER FIREARM IN AKWA IBOM

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged theft of palm fruits and recovered a firearm, ammunition and other exhibits during a follow-up operation.

The suspects, identified as Uduak James and Matthew Udo, were arrested after police operatives responded to a distress call. A search conducted at their premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, an unregistered motorcycle and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The arrests formed part of a series of intelligence-led operations carried out by the Command across the state in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and dismantle criminal networks.

In a related operation, police operatives recovered a locally fabricated pistol abandoned by fleeing suspects during a raid at Urua Ekpa Street. The firearm was concealed inside a red scarf, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible.

Similarly, officers on stop-and-search duty along the Aba–Ikot Ekpene Road recovered a Dane gun concealed on an Opel motorcycle. The rider reportedly escaped after abandoning the motorcycle.

The Command also confirmed the arrest of one Wisdom Umana, who was found in possession of a toy AK-47 rifle. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the possession of the imitation firearm.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at protecting lives and property. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information capable of aiding crime prevention and detection.

The Police Command assured that all suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted where necessary.
