The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign Bello Abdullahi Bodejo before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged terrorism financing and money laundering offences involving about $2.53 million.

The anti-graft agency, on June 22, 2026, filed a 12-count charge against Bodejo, accusing him of unlawfully receiving and possessing large sums of foreign currency suspected to be proceeds of crime, contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

According to the charge, Bodejo allegedly received several cash payments in United States dollars from a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sa’idu Abubakar, without routing the transactions through financial institutions as required by law.

The EFCC alleged that on January 11, 2022, Bodejo accepted $100,000 in cash from Abubakar, while another $200,000 was allegedly received on January 21, 2022, both amounts exceeding the statutory threshold for cash transactions.

The Commission further alleged that Bodejo received $980,000 in physical cash on February 7, 2024, and another $500,000 on March 20, 2024, transactions it said violated provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

In one of the counts, the EFCC alleged that Bodejo took possession of $980,000 under circumstances in which he knew, or reasonably ought to have known, that the funds constituted proceeds of unlawful activity.

The Commission maintained that the alleged transactions breached various provisions of Nigeria’s anti-money laundering laws and are punishable under the relevant statutes.

Bodejo, who is expected to be arraigned in the coming days, has not entered a plea, and the allegations remain unproven pending the determination of the court.

Further proceedings are expected once the Federal High Court fixes a date for arraignment.
