Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on Akwa Ibom indigenes in the Diaspora to bring their expertise, investments and global networks home to accelerate the development of the state.
The Governor made the call at the 39th annual convention of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, AKISAN, in Dallas, Texas, where he urged the Diaspora community to become active partners in the state’s economic transformation.
Represented by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Governor Eno highlighted investment opportunities in healthcare, tourism, aviation, power, agriculture, housing and the blue economy.
He cited projects including the Ibom International Hospital, Arise Palm Resort, International Convention Centre, Arise Shopping City and Victor Attah International Airport, as evidence of the state’s expanding investment landscape.
The Governor also called on professionals in the Diaspora, particularly healthcare experts, to return or partner with the state in deploying their skills and international experience for development.
He said Akwa Ibom was steadily positioning itself as an investment and tourism destination, urging the Diaspora to help attract more investors and visitors to the state.
Meanwhile, the newly re-elected AKISAN President, Engr. Dr Mbong Ekiko, has announced that the association’s 40th annual convention will be held in Uyo in 2027.
The announcement followed the swearing-in of Ekiko for a second term as President of the association.
He commended Governor Eno for his administration’s development initiatives and efforts to strengthen engagement with Akwa Ibom indigenes in the Diaspora.
The decision to bring the landmark 40th convention home was received with enthusiasm by delegates.
