Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to evidence-based governance by directing the newly inaugurated Statistician-General of the State, Mr Uduak Effiong Isaac, to produce monthly statistical reports that will track government performance and guide policy decisions.
The Governor gave the directive on Monday while swearing in Mr Isaac during the State Executive Council meeting at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo.
Governor Eno said effective governance must be driven by credible data, stressing that the impact of projects and programmes under the ARISE Agenda should be measured with accurate statistics rather than assumptions.
He noted that the office of the Statistician-General would play a strategic role in documenting the state’s development trajectory, evaluating government interventions and providing reliable information for planning, monitoring and decision-making.
The Governor said he deliberately sought a competent professional capable not only of generating statistical reports but also of defending the integrity and accuracy of the data produced.
He tasked the new Statistician-General with submitting a monthly report on the state of development in Akwa Ibom, describing the assignment as critical to improving transparency, accountability and the efficient delivery of government programmes.
Governor Eno also directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to cooperate fully with the Statistician-General by providing timely and accurate information required for the state’s statistical system.
While retaining his position as Permanent Secretary, Human Capital Development, Mr Isaac is expected to coordinate the state’s statistical activities and strengthen the collection, analysis and dissemination of official data.
The Governor recalled that Mr Isaac’s work in documenting Akwa Ibom’s human capital development initiatives contributed significantly to the state’s recognition as Nigeria’s top-performing state in the Human Capital Development programme, culminating in the visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2025 for the launch of the programme’s second phase.
Responding after taking the oath of office, Mr Isaac thanked Governor Eno for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to discharge his responsibilities with professionalism, diligence and integrity.
He assured that his office would work closely with relevant stakeholders to generate credible, timely and reliable statistics that accurately reflect the state’s socio-economic realities and support sustainable development.
