Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has revealed that superstition is behind his habit of wearing long sleeves during matches, even in extremely hot weather.
The Germany international explained during an “Ask Me Anything” session that wearing long sleeves has become such an established part of his matchday routine that he no longer feels comfortable playing in short sleeves.
“It’s a superstition. I think it’s the thing I just feel most comfortable with on the pitch,” Havertz said.

He recalled attracting attention from teammates and supporters while wearing long sleeves during Arsenal activities in Singapore despite temperatures reaching about 45°C.
Havertz said the conditions had not persuaded him to change the habit.
“But that’s how I like it, and my head just always tells me to wear long sleeves, so I can’t wear short sleeves anymore,” he added.
The German has maintained the preference throughout his time at Arsenal and while representing his country, making long sleeves a familiar feature of his appearance on the pitch.
Havertz also reflected on some of his memorable moments with Arsenal, identifying his goal in last season’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain as his favourite for the club despite Arsenal eventually losing the match.

He said the emotion immediately after scoring made the moment particularly memorable.
“The emotional feeling after I scored the goal, after the celebration, the goosebumps, it was just incredible,” Havertz said.
“In that minute, I think that was the best I’ve ever felt in my life on a football pitch, so I think that was my favourite one.”
