The 2nd Vice President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Akuchukwu Aghazu, has urged Team Nigeria to give their best as the 24th Senior African Athletics Championships enters Day Two in Accra, Ghana.

Speaking to the Nigerian contingent ahead of the events, Aghazu expressed confidence in the preparedness of the athletes and charged them to compete with determination and unity throughout the championship.

“We believe in your abilities and the sacrifices you have made to get to this stage. Go out there and make Nigeria proud. Compete with courage, discipline and the spirit of champions,” she said.

She also commended the commitment of foreign-based Nigerian athletes who travelled to Ghana for the continental competition despite their busy schedules abroad.

“To our foreign-based athletes, we appreciate your dedication and willingness to honour the national call. Your presence here reflects your love and commitment to Nigeria,” Aghazu added.

The AFN official further praised the National Sports Commission, led by Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olopade, for prioritising the welfare of athletes and officials ahead of the championships.

According to her, the support provided for the team demonstrates renewed commitment to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria.

Aghazu also acknowledged the role of the media in promoting athletics and giving visibility to Nigerian athletes.

“The media has continued to support Nigerian athletics through quality coverage and publicity. We appreciate your efforts in projecting the sport positively,” she stated.

Team Nigeria is expected to compete strongly in several events as top athletes from across the continent battle for honours at the championship in Ghana.
