U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited his long-running criticism of Iran and the Obama-era nuclear agreement, accusing Tehran of manipulating the United States for decades while blaming former President Barack Obama for empowering the Islamic Republic financially and politically.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his social media handle, Trump alleged that Iran exploited American diplomacy through years of delay tactics before gaining significant concessions under the Obama administration.

He accused Obama of abandoning key U.S. allies, particularly Israel, and claimed the 2015 nuclear deal handed Tehran “hundreds of billions of dollars” and “a major and powerful new lease on life.”
Trump also revived criticism surrounding the $1.7 billion cash settlement delivered to Iran during Obama’s presidency, describing the transfer as a symbol of weak American leadership. The former president further accused Iran of sponsoring violence against Americans and suppressing anti-government protests at home.
The remarks according to observers, underscore Trump’s continued hardline stance on Iran ahead of the U.S. election season, where foreign policy and Middle East security remain central campaign issues. During his presidency, Trump withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear agreement in 2018 and imposed sweeping sanctions on Tehran under his “maximum pressure” policy.
Therefore, his latest comments are expected to intensify political debate in Washington over U.S.-Iran relations, particularly as tensions continue to simmer across the Middle East.
