Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised a key terrorist commander and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during sustained clearance operations in Katsina State.
The operation, conducted on August 29, 2026, targeted identified terrorist enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area, where troops of Sector 2 encountered stiff resistance from armed terrorists.
The troops reportedly responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee their hideouts.
During the subsequent exploitation of the area, troops confirmed the neutralisation of a terrorist commander identified as SMALLY, who operated under the notorious terrorist leader, Kachalla Muhammadu Filani.

Security forces also recovered three machine guns, two AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition and six motorcycles allegedly used by the terrorists for their operations.
The Joint Task Force said the operation was part of sustained efforts to degrade terrorist networks and dismantle their operational capabilities across the North-West.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its determination to maintain pressure on terrorist groups, deny them freedom of action and create conditions for the restoration of lasting peace and security in affected communities.
