Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to stronger regional security collaboration aimed at defeating terrorism and stabilising the Lake Chad Basin, as defence leaders from across the region met to review joint operations.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, gave the assurance at the recently concluded meeting of Defence Ministers and troop-contributing countries under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), held in N’Djamena, Republic of Chad.

The gathering brought together defence officials from Nigeria and neighbouring countries including Chad and Cameroon, all of whom play key roles in coordinated counterterrorism operations across the Lake Chad region.
According to discussions at the meeting, participating nations reviewed ongoing military operations, assessed emerging threats, and explored ways to strengthen collective responses to terrorism, insurgency, and cross-border criminal activity that continue to destabilise the region.
The MNJTF, operating under the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, remains central to multinational efforts to contain extremist networks and restore stability to affected communities across the basin.

Musa reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen cooperation with partner nations, stressing that sustained joint action remains essential to degrading terrorist groups and improving security outcomes in the region.
