The Nigeria Police Force Special Protection Unit (SPU) has held a strategic meeting with its management team and Commanding Officers from all 31 bases nationwide as part of efforts to strengthen operational efficiency and align with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The meeting, presided over by Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the SPU, AIG Olufemi Haruna, took place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the Police, discussions at the meeting focused on discipline, professionalism, operational readiness and strict adherence to standard operating procedures, particularly ahead of upcoming election security responsibilities.

The session also addressed the Federal Government’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel attached to unauthorised VIP duties, alongside issues relating to personnel accountability, regular training and comprehensive arms audits.

Participants further deliberated on plans to establish a dedicated SPU Headquarters and Training School aimed at enhancing the operational and tactical capacity of the unit.

Commanding Officers were urged to strengthen supervision, prioritise personnel welfare and ensure strict compliance with existing regulations, especially in view of recent firearm-related incidents.

The Police said the meeting formed part of broader efforts to improve professionalism, operational effectiveness and public confidence in policing across the country.
