The Senate on Wednesday initiated a formal investigation into renewed attacks in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, while directing the immediate provision of relief materials to affected communities.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Senator Binos Yaroe, who raised concerns over coordinated attacks on communities including Kwa, Gyakan, Rigange, Waduku, and Tchobo.

The assaults, reportedly carried out by gunmen on motorcycles, have resulted in multiple deaths and the displacement of several residents, worsening the security situation in the area.

Leading the debate, Senator Yaroe described the situation as alarming, noting that the attackers targeted vulnerable residents despite existing security measures.

“Lawmakers are worried that these attacks take place despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew being in force and the presence of many security personnel in the area,” he said.

In response, the Senate mandated its Committee on National Security and Intelligence to conduct a thorough investigation into the crisis, to find lasting solutions to the violence.

As part of immediate humanitarian efforts, lawmakers also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials to displaced victims.

The move underscores growing concerns within the National Assembly over persistent insecurity in parts of the country and the need for both decisive security action and support for affected populations.
