The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, across several of its retail outlets.
A market survey in Abuja and its environs on Tuesday showed that petrol was being sold at between N1,395 and N1,430 per litre at many NNPCL stations.
The latest adjustment represents an increase of between N50 and N80 per litre at the affected outlets, depending on location.
The new prices were observed at NNPCL stations around Airport Junction, Gwarinpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 4 and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
The development comes shortly after MRS filling stations raised their petrol price to N1,395 per litre, following an increase in the gantry price of petrol by the Dangote Refinery to N1,265 per litre.
The latest pump price adjustments also come amid a sharp rise in international crude oil prices.
Brent crude was reported at about $107 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate traded around $103 per barrel, following the escalation of hostilities between Iran and the United States.
The development follows recent attacks involving Iran and Saudi Arabia, including an Iranian strike on Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline.
Reports indicate that the latest increase is expected to put further pressure on transportation and other costs as consumers and businesses adjust to the new petrol prices.
