The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its workforce as part of activities marking the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
The annual observance, held on April 28, is dedicated to preventing workplace accidents and occupational diseases while promoting safe, healthy, and decent working conditions across industries.

Speaking at a commemorative event, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Professor Chizindu Alikor, assured staff that the hospital management has put in place adequate measures to guarantee a secure and supportive working environment.
Alikor, who spoke on the theme, “How’s Work? Let’s Ensure a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment,” emphasised the need for stakeholders in the health sector to balance quality patient care with the mental and physical well-being of healthcare workers.
According to him, a healthy workforce remains critical to effective healthcare delivery and improved patient outcomes.
Also speaking, the Deputy President of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Foreman Onuoha, underscored the importance of sustained awareness and collaboration among organisations to strengthen workplace safety standards.
He called for a proactive approach to safety management, stressing that building a culture of prevention is key to reducing risks and ensuring long-term productivity.

The event brought together healthcare professionals and safety experts who reiterated the need for continuous efforts to create safer and healthier workplaces, particularly within the demanding healthcare sector.
