A former Director of Defence Information, Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has reportedly lost his life while being held by bandits following his abduction in Katsina State.
The development was confirmed by the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, who disclosed that security agencies had received intelligence suggesting that the retired military officer was killed by his captors.

According to the commissioner, authorities are still working to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and have yet to recover the deceased’s body. Security personnel are continuing search operations in an effort to locate his remains.
Major General Abubakar and his wife were abducted on May 30 along the Matazu area of Katsina State while travelling through the region. The incident triggered widespread concern across the country, particularly within security and military circles.
Following the abduction, state authorities and security agencies had expressed optimism that efforts underway would lead to the safe rescue of the retired officer and his wife.
The reported killing has further highlighted the persistent security challenges facing parts of northern Nigeria, where incidents of kidnapping and banditry continue to pose serious threats to residents and travellers.

Security operations related to the case remain ongoing, and officials are expected to provide additional information as investigations and recovery efforts progress.
