The Kogi East Elders Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to tender an immediate and unreserved apology over what it described as interference in the political affairs of the district.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Ibrahim Dansofo, the elders criticised the senator’s recent visit to Idah, where she reportedly endorsed a candidate for the Kogi East senatorial ticket.

They described the move as inappropriate and a violation of internal party processes.

The council accused Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, of attempting to influence decisions outside her constituency, insisting that Kogi East leaders are capable of managing their own political arrangements without external involvement.

According to the statement, the endorsement was seen as a “subversion” of party democracy and an attempt to impose a candidate on the district. The elders maintained that consultations were already ongoing among stakeholders to reach a consensus candidate ahead of future elections.

They further warned that such actions could deepen divisions within the party, stressing that respect for established political structures is critical to maintaining unity.

The group also alleged that the senator’s involvement may be linked to broader political ambitions, cautioning that such strategies could destabilise the party in the state if not checked.

Reiterating their position, the elders demanded that Akpoti-Uduaghan apologise and refrain from further involvement in Kogi East affairs, urging her to focus on representing her own constituency.
