The Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom has announced a £50 refund for applicants who paid a £70 administrative fee during the ongoing special passport intervention exercise.
The refund will reduce the effective administrative charge to the standard £20 fee, according to a public notice issued by the High Commission on September 11.
The intervention exercise, being conducted by the Nigeria Immigration Service in collaboration with the High Commission, is taking place across several cities in the UK, including Manchester, London, Cardiff and Aberdeen.
The High Commission had initially charged applicants £70 for the administrative component of the exercise, prompting complaints and scrutiny from Nigerians in the UK.
The commission subsequently reduced the fee to £20 and confirmed that applicants who had already paid £70 would receive £50 refunds.
The special intervention exercise is aimed at providing passport services to Nigerians in the UK, with appointments scheduled across the participating centres between September and October.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has also stated that applicants should use the official channels for passport applications and pay the prescribed charges, with no additional fees required for participation in the intervention exercise.
The High Commission said the refund arrangement followed its review of the administrative charges applicable to the exercise.
