Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, eldest son of the late Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has revealed that his father repeatedly told family members he had a covenant with God to depart from the world at the age of 100.

Taiwo, who serves as Secretary to the Ondo State Government, disclosed on Tuesday night that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa visited the family residence in Akure to offer condolences following the elder statesman’s death.

Pa Fasoranti died on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at his residence in the Ijapo area of Akure, aged 100.

According to his son, the late nationalist had long prepared his family for his eventual departure, frequently reminding them of his belief that he would die upon attaining the age of 100.

Taiwo explained that his father also instructed his children not to mourn excessively when the time came, but to appreciate the life he had lived.

He said the family had therefore resolved to celebrate the elder statesman’s achievements and enduring legacy rather than concentrate on the pain of his death.

Describing his father as a man of exceptional discipline and determination, Taiwo acknowledged that preserving his values would be a major responsibility for the surviving family members.

He identified firmness, resilience, hard work and love as some of the important qualities his father demonstrated throughout his lifetime.

The Ondo State Government’s Secretary also recalled Fasoranti’s dedication to his children’s education and upbringing, noting that he maintained an active interest in their development from primary school through university.

He described the late Afenifere leader as a reserved but thoughtful father whose guidance and wisdom would be deeply missed.

Taiwo thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for visiting the family and appealed for continued prayers as they adjust to life without their patriarch.

Speaking during the condolence visit, Aiyedatiwa described Fasoranti as an outstanding educationist and statesman whose contributions to governance and national development extended across generations.

The governor said the centenarian remained mentally alert and continued to offer valuable advice on government affairs even in his final years.

He praised Fasoranti’s humility, kindness and commitment to public service, describing his century-long life as worthy of celebration.

Aiyedatiwa also disclosed that the elder statesman died peacefully, without prolonged illness, and encouraged his family to find comfort in the legacy he left behind.

The governor urged Nigerians to emulate Fasoranti’s principles of integrity, compassion and service to humanity.

Pa Fasoranti, a respected nationalist and former Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State, remained an influential voice in Yoruba socio-political affairs until his death.
