The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has condemned an alleged attack on the campaign vehicle of its House of Representatives candidate for Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency in Taraba State, Innocent Umar Jabayang.

The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend in Yorro Local Government Area, raising concerns about political violence and the safety of candidates and supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State, Danjuma Usman Shiddi, popularly known as Danji SS, condemned the reported incident through his campaign council and called for an immediate investigation by security agencies.

In a statement issued by the council’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Umaru, the party alleged that Jabayang’s campaign vehicle, bearing registration number GBB-339AA, was vandalised during the incident.

According to the statement, the vehicle sustained damage to its windscreens and bodywork, while campaign materials were also destroyed.

The campaign council described the development as an unacceptable form of political intimidation and warned against actions capable of undermining peaceful electoral participation.

Shiddi’s campaign organisation maintained that political competition should be conducted through constructive engagement, policy discussions and persuasion rather than threats or violence.

It urged the Taraba State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported incident.

The council also called for the identification and prosecution of anyone found responsible, stressing the need to prevent further incidents that could heighten political tensions within the constituency.

Despite the development, the campaign organisation reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political activities and urged supporters not to resort to retaliation.

Reacting separately, Jabayang appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to ensure the effective enforcement of Taraba State’s anti-thuggery law.

The House of Representatives candidate expressed concern over what he described as increasing political intimidation and alleged selective enforcement of the law.

He argued that security agencies should investigate reported attacks on political actors impartially, regardless of their affiliations.

Jabayang also urged his supporters to remain calm, respect the law and avoid actions capable of provoking violence.

The candidate maintained that political differences should be resolved through democratic processes rather than intimidation or physical confrontation.

The incident has renewed calls for stronger security arrangements around political activities in Taraba State as parties intensify preparations for the forthcoming elections.

As of publication, the identities of those allegedly responsible for damaging the vehicle had not been independently established, and no confirmed police findings or arrests relating specifically to the incident had been made public.

APGA maintained that the reported attack would not discourage its participation in the electoral process, while calling on security authorities to protect candidates, supporters and members of the public.
