Jürgen Klopp recorded his first victory as Germany head coach on Thursday as his side defeated Serbia 2-0 in their UEFA Nations League Group A2 encounter at the Allianz Arena.

Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz scored for Germany, ending Klopp’s two-match wait for a first victory since taking charge of the national team.

Germany had opened Klopp’s tenure with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Greece. The victory over Serbia therefore provided a positive response after a difficult start to the new era.

Klopp made significant changes to his team for the match, introducing several younger players as Germany sought greater energy and attacking intensity.

The hosts controlled much of the opening period and repeatedly threatened the Serbian defence before finally breaking the deadlock late in the first half.

Wirtz drove into the penalty area and struck the post, but Bischof reacted quickly to the rebound and converted to give Germany the lead.

Germany maintained control after the break and continued creating opportunities as Serbia struggled to establish sustained attacking pressure.

Wirtz eventually doubled the advantage, producing a composed finish after creating space inside the penalty area.

Serbia was unable to recover, allowing Germany to comfortably see out the remainder of the contest and secure all three points.

The match also produced a landmark moment for Mika Baur, who came off the bench in the second half to become the 1,000th player to represent Germany at senior international level.

The result gives Klopp his first victory in three matches as Germany coach and provides his side with renewed momentum in their Nations League campaign.
