England international Marcus Rashford has reflected on the difficult introduction he received to El Clásico despite enjoying a productive loan spell with Barcelona last season.

Rashford established himself as an important attacking option during his time in Catalonia, recording 14 goals in 49 appearances across competitions as Barcelona went on to win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

However, his first experience of Spanish football’s biggest rivalry produced a less memorable result.

The forward featured as Barcelona suffered a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, giving him an immediate taste of the intensity surrounding matches between Spain’s two biggest clubs.

PRODUCTIVE SEASON IN CATALONIA

Despite the setback against Madrid, Rashford’s wider spell at Barcelona proved productive.

The England international adapted to Spanish football and contributed goals across a campaign in which the Catalan club eventually secured major domestic honours.

His 14-goal return from 49 appearances represented a significant contribution during his temporary spell away from English football.

The El Clásico defeat, however, remained one of the tougher moments of his Barcelona experience, demonstrating the pressure and fine margins associated with the rivalry.

Barcelona ultimately recovered strongly over the course of the campaign, securing the Spanish league title and adding the Super Cup to their honours.

For Rashford, the season combined individual productivity and silverware with an early reminder that El Clásico can provide one of the most demanding tests in European football.
