Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has presented employment letters to 2,037 newly recruited healthcare workers as part of efforts to address manpower shortages across health facilities in the state.
Yusuf presented the employment letters to the beneficiaries in Kano on Wednesday.
The newly recruited workers include clinical and non-clinical personnel expected to fill staffing gaps across healthcare facilities in the state.
According to the governor, the recruitment includes 250 medical doctors, 40 pharmacists, 250 nurses, 250 midwives and 150 senior community health extension workers.
Also recruited were 50 junior community health extension workers, 50 epidemiologists and other healthcare professionals.
Yusuf said shortages in the state’s health workforce had been worsened by the departure of medical personnel and Kano’s growing population.
He said the recruitment was expected to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve residents’ access to quality medical services.
The governor urged the newly employed workers to demonstrate professionalism, dedication and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.
He also disclosed that the state government was planning another round of recruitment to further address staffing shortages in the health sector.
Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf, said the recruitment exercise was conducted on merit.
He warned that the employment offers were not for sale and urged anyone who had paid money to obtain an appointment to report the matter.
Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Mansur Mudi-Nagoda, said the recruitment was part of efforts to strengthen healthcare service delivery across the state.
