The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peter Nwagor, has warned schools across the state against failing to comply with the commencement of the new academic session.
The Commissioner issued the warning on Monday while leading an inspection team to various schools across the state to monitor compliance with the resumption directive.
Dr Nwagor urged teachers to commence academic activities immediately, while calling on students to return to school promptly, participate actively in their studies and complete their assignments.
He reminded teachers that their responsibility goes beyond classroom instruction, stressing the need to guide students towards becoming responsible members of society.
The Commissioner also charged students to be disciplined and protect school property from vandalism or deliberate damage.
According to him, about 1,000 teachers have already been deployed to secondary schools, particularly basic education schools, to address staffing needs.
He expressed optimism that an additional 5,000 teachers would be deployed within the next three weeks to further strengthen teaching and learning across the state.
Dr Nwagor further reiterated that admission and education in Rivers State-owned public schools remain free, warning that the government would continue to monitor schools to ensure compliance with the policy.
Rismadarvoice reporter gathered that schools visited by the monitoring team included Community Secondary School, Rumuepirikom; State Primary School, Olanada; and Rivers State Universal Basic Education Community Junior Secondary School, Olanada, along Rumuola Road.
