Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, made a joint public appearance in Nottingham on Thursday, visiting charitable organisations amid continuing questions about their relationship with the British royal family.
The couple’s engagement included visits to organisations supporting disadvantaged young people, vulnerable families and local communities.
The appearance comes amid reports that Harry and Meghan have returned to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, although details of their reported relocation have not been independently confirmed.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from official royal duties in 2020 and subsequently established their family home in Montecito, California.
Their Nottingham engagement attracted particular attention because of the city’s significance in their relationship. The couple made their first joint public appearance following their engagement announcement there in 2017.
During Thursday’s visit, they attended the Community Recording Studio, an organisation providing creative opportunities for young people and which Harry has supported for several years.
Their programme also included Himmah, a charity providing food assistance and community support, and Epic Partners, which offers mentoring, sporting activities and educational opportunities to disadvantaged young people.
Royal commentator Emily Nash described the engagement as resembling the couple’s previous official royal appearances, noting Harry’s longstanding connections with some of the organisations.
The visit also comes against the background of continuing disagreements over the couple’s royal status and security arrangements in Britain.
A letter reportedly sent on behalf of King Charles III to senior government and military officials reaffirmed that Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the royal family.
A spokesperson for the couple reportedly expressed surprise at the correspondence, while maintaining that their status had been established when they withdrew from official duties.
The couple’s relationship with Buckingham Palace has faced considerable public scrutiny since their departure from royal responsibilities, particularly following disclosures in their documentary series and Harry’s memoir, Spare.
There have also been reports concerning adjustments to their children’s schooling following the family’s reported return to Britain. However, those accounts have not been independently verified.

Harry’s security arrangements remain another issue surrounding his visits to the United Kingdom, following previous disputes over the level of police protection available to him.
Despite their status as non-working royals, Harry and Meghan remain free to undertake private charitable engagements.
Their Nottingham appearance has consequently renewed public interest in whether they intend to establish a more regular presence in Britain while continuing their independent charitable and professional activities.
