The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 40-year-old man, Azeez Tajudeen, following an attack on supporters of Accord governorship candidate, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, during a political procession in Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the police, the attack occurred around Molete as supporters gathered to welcome Hamzat following his return from the United Kingdom.

Ayanlade said a complainant reported that suspected hoodlums attacked members of the procession shortly after they departed Molete for the Agidigbo office along Iwo Road.
Tajudeen, who hailed from Oke Amu in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, reportedly sustained a serious injury to his right eye during the incident.
He was initially taken for medical attention before being transferred to the State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, had directed the Command Monitoring Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
He added that efforts were underway to identify those responsible and establish the events leading to the victim’s death.

The command also advised political aspirants, party officials and organisers of public events to notify the police at least 48 hours before holding gatherings or processions.
According to Ayanlade, advance notification would enable security agencies to make appropriate arrangements to protect participants, maintain public order and prevent violence.
The police did not announce any arrests or identify those responsible for the attack in the statement.
