Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has praised aspirants who stepped down ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in the state, describing their actions as sacrifices made in the interest of unity and peace within the party.

The governor gave the commendation on Thursday night during a tour of the ARISE Palm Resort in Uyo, according to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah.

Eno said the aspirants demonstrated patriotism and political maturity by placing the collective interest of the APC and the state above personal ambitions.

He noted that their withdrawal from the race should not be interpreted as weakness but as loyalty, honour and respect for party leadership and internal harmony.

The governor also assured the affected aspirants that their sacrifices would not be ignored, stating that he would personally engage them on issues relating to inclusivity within the party.

“He assured that he would personally meet with the affected aspirants on matters of inclusivity, stressing that the party and government remain committed to recognising and reciprocating sacrifices made in the interest of peace, fairness, unity, and sustainable progress,” the statement said.

Eno further directed party leaders at the local government and constituency levels to intensify reconciliation efforts ahead of the primaries and strengthen internal cohesion within the APC.

He also advocated rotational political arrangements that would encourage broader participation, equity and inclusiveness in future elections across the state.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining a peaceful political atmosphere anchored on fairness, unity and collective progress in Akwa Ibom State.
