The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated its newly acquired national secretariat in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen its organisational structure and coordinate preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The facility, located in Jabi, Federal Capital Territory, was unveiled on Monday following an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The inauguration brought together senior party officials, elected representatives, governorship candidates and other stakeholders as the opposition party intensified preparations for the forthcoming elections.

Among those present were the NDC National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe; National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson; and Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the National Assembly.

The party’s Rivers State governorship candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, also attended the ceremony alongside other leaders and supporters.

Speaking at the event, Dickson described the newly acquired secretariat as the party’s “Noah’s Ark,” presenting it as a centre of unity and coordination for members across the country.

He congratulated party officials and supporters on the development, expressing confidence that the facility would provide a suitable administrative base for the party’s growing national activities.

The secretariat is expected to serve as the NDC’s national headquarters and a centre for coordinating communication, political organisation and activities involving its state chapters.

It will also support the party’s presidential campaign operations as preparations for the 2027 general elections progress.

The development coincided with the unveiling of the NDC’s National Campaign Council, which is tasked with coordinating electoral activities and mobilising supporters nationwide.

Dickson was named chairman of the council, while the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was appointed co-chairman.

The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was named co-vice chairman, with Ibrahim Abdulkarim appointed Director-General of the presidential campaign.

The NDC said the council would provide strategic direction and coordinate campaign activities across the federation.

The party had earlier introduced a digital membership registration platform as part of efforts to expand participation and strengthen its organisational framework.

Its latest inauguration adds a physical administrative headquarters to those preparations.

The NDC is seeking to expand its national presence and present itself as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.

However, the party’s electoral prospects will ultimately be determined by voters when the elections are held.
