The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has dismissed allegations that House of Assembly aspirants loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, were favoured during the party’s screening exercise while aspirants linked to Governor Siminalayi Fubara were denied clearance.

Speaking with journalists at the APC State Secretariat in Port Harcourt, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chibuike Ikenga, described the claims as misleading and unfair, insisting that Wike is not a member of the APC and played no role in the screening process.

Ikenga maintained that the screening exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and supervised by the designated committee without external interference.

The controversy followed the release of the screening results, which showed that only 33 out of the 98 aspirants screened by the Rivers State House of Assembly screening committee were cleared to contest.

Aspirants believed to be loyal to Governor Fubara were reportedly not cleared, while many of those approved are said to be incumbent lawmakers aligned with Wike.
