Popular gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologised following public criticism of her comments concerning the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In a video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, the singer expressed regret that her earlier remarks were interpreted as insensitive to the suffering of the victims and their families.

Alaseyori explained that her intention was not to trivialise the incident or disregard the concerns of Nigerians over the worsening security situation.

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.

The gospel artiste said she was deeply saddened by the reactions generated by the video and appealed to those offended, particularly parents, to forgive her.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she added.

The apology comes amid widespread reactions to an earlier video in which Alaseyori urged Nigerians to continue praying over the country’s security challenges. In the video, she also stated that the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu were making efforts to rescue the abducted victims, restore peace, and address insecurity.

Her remarks sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians arguing that prayers alone were not enough and that authorities must take stronger and more decisive action to secure the release of abducted persons and improve security across the country.

The controversy is linked to the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has generated nationwide concern and renewed calls for enhanced security measures.

The kidnapping has continued to attract condemnation from citizens, civil society organisations, and public officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who recently urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

As public pressure mounts, advocacy groups and concerned Nigerians have continued to call for urgent and sustained government action to curb insecurity and prevent similar attacks on schools and communities.
