The management of Gombe State University has commenced an investigation following the discovery of a day-old baby boy at the institution’s female hostel.
The university described the incident as unfortunate, stating that efforts are ongoing in collaboration with security agencies to identify those responsible for abandoning the child.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Napthali Hadu, confirmed the development and disclosed that authorities were working to uncover the perpetrator and ensure appropriate action is taken.

According to the university management, the newborn has been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he is currently receiving medical attention and appropriate care.
The institution also announced restrictions around the female hostel as investigations continue into the incident.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the latest development adds to previous reports of abandoned newborns recorded in the area in recent years.
