President Bola Tinubu has been commended over the appointment of Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with supporters describing the move as a vote of confidence in young professionals and merit-driven leadership.

Public affairs commentator Ibrahim Aliu, in a statement, said the appointment of the 39-year-old scholar and examination systems expert reflects the administration’s commitment to competence, innovation and technocratic governance.

Aliu noted that the appointment aligns with previous selections of younger professionals into key government positions, arguing that the administration has continued to prioritise performance and capacity over age.

According to him, Prof. Aina’s background in academic research, digital systems development and institutional reforms places him in a strong position to address major challenges facing JAMB, including examination security, digital transformation, operational efficiency and result credibility.

He explained that JAMB remains one of Nigeria’s most critical educational institutions due to the large number of candidates participating in its examinations annually, making the office of registrar highly significant.

Aliu further stated that the appointment carries symbolic importance for many young Nigerians, suggesting it sends a message that excellence, preparation and competence can create opportunities for national leadership regardless of age.
