Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Lawal said his decision was informed by the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The former SGF alleged that the ADC presidential primary process was manipulated in favour of Atiku, claiming that the outcome had been predetermined.

According to him, he would not be part of what he described as a political arrangement designed to ensure Atiku’s emergence in the 2027 presidential election.

Lawal further stated that President Bola Tinubu remained a better option than Atiku, despite criticisms of the current administration.

He also questioned Atiku’s suitability for the presidency, describing the former vice president as incompetent and accusing him of promoting divisive politics based on ethnic and religious considerations.

The former SGF maintained that individuals seeking the nation’s highest office should possess the capacity to unite Nigerians and provide effective leadership.
