Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, has said Governor Uba Sani has a broad vision for education centred on expanding access to quality learning and equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and character required to lead productive lives.
Balarabe spoke during a community engagement organised by the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, where she stressed that improving education required cooperation beyond government institutions.
She described education as a shared responsibility involving government, teachers, school managers, parents, learners, communities and other stakeholders.
According to the deputy governor, the administration’s education reforms are aimed at improving children’s learning experiences and strengthening standards across schools in the state’s 23 local government areas.
KADUNA STRENGTHENS SCHOOL MONITORING
Balarabe said the government was strengthening quality assurance to ensure that schools in remote communities receive appropriate monitoring and attention.
She said Education Quality Assurance Officers had been provided with motorcycles and operational support to enable them to visit more schools, identify problems and work with school managers to address deficiencies.
The deputy governor also highlighted the introduction of hybrid Computer-Based Testing for the Junior Secondary Certificate Examination, QR-coded certificates and enhanced examination monitoring.
She said the measures were intended to strengthen examination integrity and improve accountability within the education system.
Balarabe added that more than 800,000 students participating in Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School examinations had received government support since 2023.
“This is a demonstration of our commitment to invest in the education of Kaduna children,” she said.
SCHOOL MONITORING GOES DIGITAL
Director-General of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Prof. Abubakar Usman Zaria, said the administration had overhauled its approach to quality assurance, moving towards continuous improvement and data-driven monitoring.
He said school monitoring was being transformed from paper-based reporting to digital, real-time evidence through the EduMonitor application.
More than 20 quality assurance tools have also been standardised and automated, according to Zaria.
The tools cover examination clearance and candidate affiliation, school categorisation, proposed school-site assessment, textbook assessment, private-school licensing, annual quality assurance reporting and examination-material tracking.
Zaria said Basic Education Certificate Examination certificates, Certificates of Consent and annual private-school operating licences now carry QR codes designed to strengthen verification and guard against fraud and forgery.
The authority has also introduced an Annual Quality Assurance Report as part of the licence-renewal process for private schools.
According to him, the measure is intended to ensure schools maintain required standards throughout the year rather than demonstrate compliance only when licences are due for renewal.
50 MOTORCYCLES DEPLOYED TO FIELD OFFICERS
Despite increasing digitalisation, Zaria said technology could not replace physical visits to schools.
He disclosed that 50 motorcycles had been provided for field officers across Kaduna’s 23 local government areas to improve access, particularly to schools in hard-to-reach communities.
Monthly operational and monitoring allowances are also being provided to support field activities.
The reforms form part of the state’s broader efforts to combine physical inspection, digital monitoring, examination safeguards and community participation in maintaining education standards across Kaduna State.
