The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Dantalle, has urged Nigerians to reject vote buying and elect leaders of their choice during the 2027 general election.

Dantalle described vote buying as one of the greatest threats to Nigeria’s democracy, warning citizens against exchanging their future for temporary financial inducements.

He spoke during an interview on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu.

“Elect who you want. Reject peanuts or that evil called vote buying. If they give you and you are forced to take, take, but do what is right,” he said.

The IPAC chairman also expressed sympathy for President Bola Tinubu, describing his reform agenda as well-intentioned but challenged by systemic inefficiencies and institutional weaknesses.

“I sympathise with the president. He is doing his best to fix Nigeria,” Dantalle stated.

However, he acknowledged that many Nigerians are facing severe economic hardship and argued that the benefits of ongoing reforms have yet to significantly improve living conditions for citizens.

According to him, the economic challenges confronting Nigerians are closely linked to the worsening security situation in parts of the country.

When asked whether an APM-led government would reverse key policies such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, Dantalle said the party’s focus would be on a broader national transformation rather than simple policy reversals.

“The APM, my presidential candidate said we will reset Nigeria,” he explained.

He said the idea of resetting Nigeria goes beyond economic reforms and requires a comprehensive review of the nation’s value system, institutions and governance culture.

“We have to look at the entire value system. What you are seeing today is insecurity. It is a product of neglect. It is a product of exclusion.

“If Nigerians are made to believe they own Nigeria, nobody would want to destroy what belongs to them,” he added.
