Nollywood actress, Etinosa Idemudia has spoken against the growing trend of celebrities sharing private direct messages (DM) after a person’s death, describing the practice as insincere and driven by a desire for public attention.

The actress made the remarks during a recent interview on the BTC Podcast, where she criticised individuals who, according to her, fail to maintain meaningful relationships while people are alive but later express emotional sentiments publicly after their passing.

Etinosa warned colleagues and associates against posting any private conversations involving her in the event of her death, stating that such actions often appear contradictory and misleading.

According to her, some people ignore messages and opportunities to connect with others during their lifetime but later use social media to project sympathy and closeness after a loss occurs.

She also criticised movie producers and industry figures who allegedly decline opportunities to work with actors while they are active but later publish emotional tributes claiming they had intended to collaborate with them.

The actress suggested that genuine appreciation and support should be shown while people are alive rather than after their death.

Her comments come amid reactions following reports surrounding the death of actor Alexx Ekubo, which prompted several celebrities and public figures to share screenshots of previous conversations and exchanges with him on social media platforms.

The practice of posting final conversations or unreplied messages after a person’s death has increasingly generated debate online, with some users viewing it as a heartfelt expression of grief, while others argue that it can appear performative and invade personal privacy.
