Popular comedian and filmmaker, Basketmouth, has criticised what he described as a growing societal tendency to give greater attention to controversies and failures while overlooking achievements and excellence.
The entertainer expressed his concerns in a recent post shared on his Instagram page, where he accused some blogs and media platforms of prioritising sensational content over stories highlighting hard work and positive impact.
According to him, individuals who create employment opportunities, build successful ventures, break barriers, or contribute meaningfully to society often receive far less public attention than those involved in controversies.
Basketmouth argued that scandals and embarrassing incidents frequently dominate discussions for extended periods, while notable accomplishments struggle to attract similar interest.
He questioned what he described as a gradual shift in societal values, suggesting that outrage and controversy now appear to generate more engagement than genuine success stories.
The comedian also expressed concern that an excessive focus on failures and public downfalls could negatively influence attitudes toward ambition and excellence.
He noted that continuously amplifying negative narratives risks creating an environment where hard work, discipline, and innovation are no longer appreciated or encouraged.
Basketmouth further warned that such patterns could affect future generations by weakening appreciation for qualities such as consistency, creativity, and achievement.
He stressed that a society that repeatedly highlights failure while neglecting success may unintentionally discourage people from striving for greatness.
Calling for a change in priorities, the entertainer urged Nigerians to celebrate achievements and recognise individuals making meaningful contributions to society.
