Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered several firearms and ammunition during an operation to prevent a suspected attack on Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The troops, operating under Sector 8 of Operation ENDURING PEACE as part of Operation HARD KNOCK, launched the operation following credible intelligence of a planned attack by suspected bandit militias on August 19, 2026.
The intelligence reportedly linked the planned attack to the alleged rustling of an unspecified number of cattle by some youths from the community.

The Army subsequently deployed troops to conduct fighting patrols, raid suspected locations and recover the missing cattle, while also identifying those allegedly responsible.
Using drones and other surveillance assets, the troops searched surrounding settlements and bush locations but found no trace of the cattle.
Acting on intelligence, the troops later raided the residence of one Pantong Stanley, identified as a suspected perpetrator. Although he was not at home during the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver rifle, two Dane guns and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The Nigerian Army said efforts are ongoing to locate the suspects and prevent further attacks in the area.
