The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) have agreed to deepen collaboration in the fight against economic and financial crimes as well as other forms of criminality in Edo State.
The resolution was reached on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, when the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, received the Edo State Comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Julius Osemwegie, during a courtesy visit.

Speaking during the meeting, Comptroller Osemwegie said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between both agencies and promoting closer cooperation in tackling crime and criminal activities within the state.
He noted that no single institution could effectively eradicate crime without strategic collaboration among relevant agencies within the criminal justice system.
According to him, the EFCC remains a critical stakeholder in the justice ecosystem, especially as suspects being investigated or prosecuted by the anti-graft agency are often remanded in correctional facilities, while convicted persons are committed to correctional centres by the courts to serve their sentences.
Osemwegie assured the EFCC of the readiness of the Nigerian Correctional Service to continue sharing intelligence and relevant information whenever necessary to support law enforcement efforts.
He stressed that effective inter-agency cooperation remains essential in addressing the growing challenges of corruption, financial crimes, and other criminal activities in society.
Responding, the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Benin Directorate, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, commended the cordial working relationship between the Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

“We have had a very good working relationship with the Correctional Service, and we hope to continue in that direction,” he said.
The meeting highlighted the importance of synergy among security and law enforcement agencies in strengthening the administration of justice and enhancing the fight against corruption and criminality in Edo State and beyond.
