Tension erupted at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, on Wednesday after police officers reportedly arrived at the residence of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, in an attempt to arrest him.
Ogunwole said the officers arrived at his residence at about 6:10 a.m. and informed him that they had a warrant for his arrest.

The Vice-Chancellor said he declined to accompany the officers until he was informed of the reason for the proposed arrest.
News of the development subsequently spread across the university community, prompting staff members and students to gather at the residence in solidarity with the Vice-Chancellor.
Their presence reportedly prevented the officers from taking Ogunwole away.

Ogunwole linked the development to an ongoing dispute involving an alleged leaked audio recording and petitions submitted by individuals connected to the university.
He maintained that the matter was already before a court and said he remained willing to respond to any lawful invitation from security authorities.
The university branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, National Association of Academic Technologists and Non-Academic Staff Union also expressed support for the Vice-Chancellor.
FUOYE Director of Public Affairs, Dr Sunday Saanu, questioned the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest and called for due process in handling the matter.
The incident generated tension within the university community as students and staff gathered around the Vice-Chancellor’s residence.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged leaked recording and petitions remain disputed, and the allegations have not been independently established.
There was no immediate indication that Ogunwole had been taken into police custody following the incident.
