The Cross River State Government is set to hold a meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) branch, in a bid to resolve the industrial action that has grounded academic activities at the institution for 45 days.
The planned meeting follows the submission of relevant documents by the union to facilitate discussions aimed at addressing the issues that triggered the indefinite strike, according to ASUU-UNICROSS Chairman, Dr Patrick Ushie.
Ushie expressed optimism that the meeting would take place before the end of the week but maintained that the union would not suspend the strike until its demands are satisfactorily addressed.

The lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike on May 19 over 11 unresolved demands, including the implementation of agreements reached between ASUU and the government, payment of outstanding salaries and wage award arrears, remittance of check-off dues, promotion arrears, earned academic allowances and other staff welfare issues.
Other grievances include the remittance of National Housing Fund deductions, cooperative contributions and improved funding for the university, as well as the implementation of non-financial aspects of previous agreements.
The prolonged industrial action has continued to disrupt academic activities at the state-owned university, with students remaining out of the classroom while negotiations between the union and the government continue.
