The Acting Rector of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Dr Akanimo Jonah, has commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to workers’ welfare following the suspension of the Joint Council of Unions’ proposed three-day warning strike.
Addressing union members on campus, Dr Jonah assured staff that the state government was taking steps to address the issues raised by the unions and urged them to remain committed to their duties while maintaining peace on campus.
The Joint Council of Unions said it suspended the strike after consultations with the Head of Civil Service and assurances that the implementation circular had been released, with the financial component to be reflected in the July 2026 salary payment.
The union has directed members in the state’s four tertiary institutions to resume normal official duties.
