FUTIA TAKES DELIVERY OF SCHOOL OF PURE & APPLIED SCIENCES ACADEMIC BUILDING

The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has formally taken delivery of the completed Academic Building Project meant for the School of Pure and Applied Sciences of the University.
The project was executed by West Strata Limited under the 2023 TETFund Annual Intervention.

During a brief Project Handover Ceremony held at the University’s Permanent Campus on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Leo Daniel, described the occasion as another milestone for the University, stressing that it marked the completion and handover of the second academic building at the Permanent Campus, executed by an indigenous company.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the new infrastructure would enable the immediate relocation of some academic programmes from the Take-off Campus. He emphasised the University’s growing infrastructural needs, with 24 Departments across six Schools. The University don expressed optimism that the ongoing construction of access and internal road networks which are built in line with the University Master Plan would be completed on time to aid smooth movement of staff and students at the Permanent Campus.

Professor Daniel commended the Management and staff of West Strata Limited for the timely execution of the project. He also appreciated the relevant University Directorates and the host communities for their cooperation throughout the project period.

The FUTIA Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, and students of the University lauded the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Federal Government for their sustained infrastructural support to Nigerian tertiary institutions, particularly at FUTIA.

Speaking on behalf of the company at the brief handover ceremony, the representative of the Managing Director, Mr Ime Amos expressed appreciation to the University Management, Directorates of Physical Planning/Works, project staff, artisans, suppliers and host communities for their collaboration throughout the construction period. He added that the project was executed in full compliance with approved designs and specifications.

In a vote of thanks, the University Registrar, Mrs Offiongita Nkang, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and TETFund for their support, while also appreciating the contractor and host communities for creating a peaceful environment for development.

Highlights of the ceremony included the formal handover inspection of the facility.
