A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has sentenced one Saleh Isa Abdullahi to six months imprisonment for criminal misappropriation involving N1.34 million.
Justice Aisha Kumaliya delivered the judgment on Monday, May 4, 2026, after Abdullahi was arraigned by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a one-count charge bordering on dishonest conversion of funds.
The convict was accused of diverting the sum of N1,340,000 belonging to Faruq Muhammad Ali, money which was allegedly entrusted to him for the supply of 100 bags of cement.
According to the charge, Abdullahi, who was identified with National Identification Number 83649788566, allegedly converted the funds to his personal use in 2024 without the consent of the complainant, an offence said to contravene Sections 296 and 297 of the Penal Code Law.
When the charge was read in court, the defendant pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly, while defence counsel, A. B. Usman, appealed for leniency, informing the court that the convict had made restitution and pleaded for mercy.
In her ruling, Justice Kumaliya convicted Abdullahi and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of a N100,000 fine.
The case stemmed from Abdullahi’s failure to supply 100 bags of cement after receiving payment, an action the court held amounted to criminal misappropriation under the law.
