The Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, has facilitated the employment of an Akwa Ibom indigene into a top Federal Government commission as part of his commitment to expanding opportunities for citizens of the state.
The beneficiary, Miss Ofonime Benson Friday, was presented with her letter of employment by the lawmaker at his office within the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Speaking during the presentation, Idem said the gesture forms part of his broader vision to facilitate the employment of 1,000 Akwa Ibom indigenes into strategic Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to him, the initiative complements his ongoing programme launched in 2024 to sponsor 1,000 Akwa Ibom people for overseas training, aimed at enhancing human capital development and increasing the state’s representation in key national institutions.
The federal lawmaker congratulated the beneficiary on her appointment and urged her to be a worthy ambassador of Akwa Ibom State by demonstrating diligence, commitment, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of her duties.
He also encouraged her to place God at the centre of all her endeavours, noting that his own achievements have been sustained by divine grace.
Idem expressed optimism that within the next 10 to 15 years, more Akwa Ibom indigenes would occupy strategic positions such as Directors, Permanent Secretaries, and other top management roles in federal establishments.

He noted that increased representation of Akwa Ibom people in federal MDAs would help attract more federal projects and programmes to the state while addressing the current gap in the number of indigenes occupying managerial positions in federal institutions.
Responding, Ofonime Benson Friday expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for facilitating her employment and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in her through exemplary conduct and excellent performance in her new role.
She assured that she would work diligently to make both her benefactor and Akwa Ibom State proud.
