The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted and hidden inside a sack during separate intelligence-led operations in the state.
In the first operation, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested a suspected kidnapper, Abdullahi Buba, also known as “Osho,” at a suspected hideout in Tudun Doki Village, Gwadabawa Local Government Area, on August 8.
Police said preliminary investigations linked Buba to a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in kidnapping and the collection of illegal levies from residents in Gwadabawa, Kware and Gada local government areas.
In a separate operation in Tangaza Local Government Area, detectives rescued 10-year-old Muhammad Sufiyanu after his disappearance was reported by his uncle, Sani Ibrahim.
The police said detectives intercepted two men on a motorcycle at about 11pm on August 11 while they were carrying a suspiciously concealed sack. The suspects reportedly fled when challenged, abandoning the sack.
A search of the sack revealed the missing boy alive and responsive. He was taken to Gidan Madi General Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
According to the police, the boy told investigators that one of the suspects lured him into a room, injected him with a sedative and forced him into the sack.
One suspect has been arrested and is said to have confessed to involvement in the alleged abduction, while police are continuing efforts to apprehend others linked to the incident.
The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the officers involved and assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-led operations against kidnappers and other criminal elements.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely information to help track and arrest suspected criminals.
