Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 14 kidnapped victims and arrested three suspected terrorist logistics couriers during separate operations in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The rescued victims comprised 12 males and two females reportedly abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki communities.
Media Information Officer of the operation, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed the developments in a statement on Saturday.
Danja said troops of Sector 2 intercepted three suspects travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari on September 24.
According to him, preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects were allegedly transporting N2.7 million, suspected to be ransom money, alongside three mobile phones for onward delivery to a terrorist kingpin through intermediaries operating in the area.
The suspects and recovered items were subsequently taken into military custody for further investigation.
In a separate operation on September 25, troops acting on intelligence concerning the movement of terrorists established an ambush in the area.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
Danja said troops conducting a routine patrol later encountered and rescued 14 kidnapped victims.
Preliminary findings indicated that the victims had earlier been abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki villages.
According to the military, the abductors abandoned the victims after sighting advancing troops.
The rescued persons were subsequently handed over to Faskari Local Government authorities for further necessary action.
Danja said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to protect civilians, rescue abducted persons and disrupt terrorist and criminal activities within its area of responsibility.
He commended the troops for their vigilance and response while urging residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities in their communities.
