Arsenal target Malick Fofana is set to complete a deadline-day move to either Sunderland or Crystal Palace, while the Gunners continue to explore late transfer options ahead of the window closing.
The 21-year-old Lyon winger had attracted interest from Arsenal, but the north London club are understood to have stepped back after assessing the financial demands of a potential deal.
Sunderland initially moved into a strong position to sign the Belgium international after agreeing a deal with Lyon, but Crystal Palace later entered the race with a late approach to secure his services.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly monitoring midfielder Martin Zubimendi after his position in the first-team setup was affected following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes.
Arsenal are also considering a late attempt to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer deadline. Reports suggest Atletico’s pursuit of Juventus striker Jonathan David is not expected to influence Alvarez’s future.
The Premier League transfer window closes on Tuesday, September 1, at 11pm UK time, leaving clubs with limited time to complete final deals.
