Argentina forward Julian Alvarez is set to remain at Atletico Madrid after deciding not to leave the club during the summer transfer window, according to reports from transfer journalist Matteo Moretto.
Alvarez had been linked with a move away from Atletico, with Arsenal making enquiries until the final stages of the transfer window. However, the 26-year-old reportedly only wanted a move to Barcelona, a deal that failed to materialise after Atletico Madrid refused to negotiate with their La Liga rivals.

Reports indicate that the Argentine striker has accepted his situation and will continue with Diego Simeone’s side for the new season. He has also returned to normal training with Atletico after the transfer uncertainty surrounding his future.
Barcelona are expected to continue monitoring Alvarez’s situation and could make another attempt to sign him in a future transfer window. Arsenal, meanwhile, will now have to look at alternative attacking options after failing to secure the forward.
Atletico Madrid have maintained that Alvarez remains an important part of their plans, despite the speculation surrounding his future throughout the summer.
