The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has concluded its Third Legislative Session, highlighting significant achievements in lawmaking, motions, and oversight activities aimed at promoting development across the state.

Speaker of the House, Udeme Otong, announced the end of the session during plenary on Tuesday, commending lawmakers for their commitment to effective legislation and service to the people.

Otong said the 8th Assembly had remained focused and productive over the past three years, contributing substantially to governance and development in the state.

According to him, the Assembly considered 44 bills during its first session, 27 bills in the second session, and 42 bills in the third session.

The Speaker also disclosed that lawmakers deliberated on 88 motions during the first session, 57 motions in the second session, and 58 motions during the third session.

He noted that the motions addressed critical issues affecting residents and provided opportunities for constructive engagement on matters of public interest.

“These motions addressed critical issues affecting our people and advancing the socio-economic development of our dear state. They have contributed significantly to policy direction and government responsiveness,” he said.

Otong stated that the Assembly’s legislative activities had strengthened governance structures, improved public service delivery, enhanced institutional efficiency, promoted economic growth, and advanced the welfare of citizens.

He added that the House remained committed to its oversight responsibilities through committee engagements, investigations, inspections, and interactions with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective implementation of government policies and programmes.

The Speaker attributed the Assembly’s achievements to the unity, cooperation, and dedication of members, stressing that every bill and motion reflected the legislature’s commitment to addressing the needs of the people.

“These legislative milestones are not merely statistics; they represent our commitment to building a more prosperous, secure, and progressive Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

Otong also commended Governor Umo Eno for his leadership and developmental initiatives, noting that collaboration between the executive and legislative arms had fostered an environment conducive to growth and progress.

He paid tribute to the founding fathers of Akwa Ibom State, former leaders of the Assembly, and other stakeholders who have contributed to strengthening democratic institutions in the state.

The Speaker further praised lawmakers and Assembly staff for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to legislative excellence.

As the Assembly prepares for a new legislative session, Otong urged members to remain focused on strengthening legislative capacity, embracing innovation, promoting inclusiveness, and advancing policies that will improve the lives of Akwa Ibom residents.
